Overactive Bladder/ InterStim

Overactive bladder is a problem with bladder-storage function that causes a sudden urge to urinate – also known as the “gotta go, gotta go” problem. The urge may be difficult to stop, and overactive bladder may lead to the involuntary loss of urine (incontinence). You may also have urinary frequency – the need to urinate often. Many patients have these symptoms both day and night.

If you have an overactive bladder, you may feel embarrassed, isolate yourself, or limit your work and social life. The good news is that a brief evaluation can determine whether there’s a specific cause for your overactive bladder symptoms. You can have your life and dignity back.

Possible treatments include pelvic floor exercises/ therapy, medications, or nerve stimulation to calm the bladder. Nerve stimulation can be through external treatments or with a “pacemaker” for the bladder (InterStim).
